LabCAST

In his study on the incidence and significance of NAbs to IFN-b-1a, Dr. Rudick and colleagues studied two patient groups: participants in the phase III clinical trial of Avonex®(IFN-b-1a) and participants in an open label safety extension study of IFN-b-1b (Betaseron®).

A two step assay was used to measure titer levels in these patients and to relate the NAb assay result to the in vivo induction of neopterin.

Clinical significance was then determined by comparing clinical and MRI measures of disease activity, in NAb+ and NAb- patients. The study also compared the incidence of NAb in multiple sclerosis patients who had used only Avonex with the NAb incidence in those who had used only Betaseron.
